Did you check under the DVD Players area for it's compatability to read cdr's ? What Manuf. is it ? I'd check it out in there...... Sounds like the player is incapable of reading cdr's

cheers spidey, its a Phillips DVD860 bought from Singapore. Apparantly it can read VCDs but I am not sure about CDRs? IS there somewhere on the menu that you can check if it reads CDRs or is it in the lost manual?
