best(fastest) trial dvd authoring software

I downloaded ulead 4 but it takes so long, 5 hours, that the program usually freezes b4 it can burn to a disc. So I decided to convert the avi files to mpeg2 b4 using ulead. Is there a software that can do both and doesnt take 5 hours to do it?

If not, whats the best avi to mpeg2 converter? I had winavi, which worked very fast, but since it was free it had a copyright mark in the middle of the screen. thanks for the time.

There is a simple mathematical relationship between speed and quality. The faster the encoder, the lower the quality. Not 100% accurate, as there are some relatively fast encoders that do produce quality output - CCE, for instance, however it still takes 3 times as long as ConvertXtoDVD, which I consider the be one of the better one-click programs.

If you want a fast encoder with very simple authoring functions, try ConvertXtoDVD, It is much more reliable and stable that WinAVI, however you will have to pay for it. It is also a far better encoder, as it can encode 23.976 fps material correctly - using pulldown instead of duplicating frames.

But it's quality does not compare to a good encoder like CCE or ProCoder.

Takes 5 hours to do what? What Ulead product are you using? Ulead 4 says nothing to me though I assume it is one of their DVD production tools. The length of the progect, the original format it is in would say a lot more. If you are working properly from original capture or transfered DV footage, edited and encoded to MPG2, the authoring process should take very little time. That depends on the complexity of the menu system you design for it. However, if you are bringing in "Avi" from less than trustworhty sources, then the program will have to contend with converting that ( is it even can ) to proper standard DVD format and that will take time. Since you do not really explain what you are working on specifically, nor do you state how long ( time ) the project is, no one could possibly determine whether 5 hours is too long or very good time for and encoding round.

Use the payware VSO convert to DVD tool for your Avi and even quicktime to DVD conversions. Does and admirable job and even gives you a simple menu system to navigate between chapters.
