  1. as above: what are .se files and if video does QT play them? does RAR and MacPAR deal with them?

    Never heard of those. You may want to open the file in a hex editor and look at the first characters; they often provide clues to the file type, e.g.:
    AVI first characters: RIFF....AVI LIST
    RAR first characters: Rar!
    ZIP first characters: PK
    VOB first characters: ....E (00 00 01 BA 45)
    MKV first characters: .E...B..matroska
    SUB first characters: .... (00 00 01 BA)
    PDF first characters: %PDF
    JPG first characters: ......JFIF
    ISO disk image first characters: ER
    StuffIt archive first characters: StuffIt

    Or else just ask the the person that supplied you with that file.

    There are two other descriptors, but if I had to hazard a guess,
    I'd say that is it....

    You can also drag and drop the file onto BBEDIT's icon,
    and it will open and ig it has a header string, it will give
    you that info as well. Less of a headache then a hex editor.
