  1. My Coby 207 just died tonight, the stand-by light doesn`t light anymore, so it`s more than dead now, rest in peace lol.

So now I want to buy a good dvd player, that lasts more than the 13 months that the Coby did, looking for a major brand now like Philips, Samsung, Panasonic, Pioneer, JVC... a friend of mine has the Philips DVP642, I thought that it was a good choice, but I`ve seen some reports in here that the player doesn`t work after a year more or less, so I need some advice.

    Thanx in advance.

Knock on wood, but I've had mine for well over a year. It's got its quirks and its video quality isn't quite as good as other players, but it's a good unit, especially at $50 and if you need to be able to play just about anything.

I think there's a new Philips unit out that is a "do everything' type as well, though I have not tried it.

I've seen Coby recorders in stores for $29.99. Not a bad deal for a year of use.

How many times that figure will you pay for two years? Three Years?

These low end recorders strip everything they can out of the product - cooling, weight, leds etc. Add more - pay more.

Good choice. Hey, let us know how if it has any quirks, will ya? I read your comments in the DVD Players section and it sounds like this is an improved version of the 642. I think this will be my next purchase...

  6. A little actualization on the Philips player, someone said in the comments section that he had problems with some DVD`s burned at 4x-6x, I had no single trouble with my Verbatim burned DVD`s that were burned on those velocities.
