    Hi,

I am using pinnacle studio 8..

I am trying to capture video footage from my panasonic camcorder directly to a blank dvd in my dvd drive...

I get the following error msg "e: is read only"

The dvd drive is a nec 3500ad dvd rw...I can burn using nero etc without any hassles...

I wonder what I am doing wrong and how to fix it..

Otherwise studio 8 is a great it captures to hdd fine...

    Please help

    Thanks in advance...

    Cheers!!!

Are you really capturing directly to the DVD disk and not to the HD first. If that is the case, you are asking for a lot from your system.

Also you don't mention your actual source. Is it Analog ( tough on your system ) or DV ( a lot easier on your system )
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!

I highly doubt it is possible to go *directly* from camcorder to DVD. For one thing, Pinnacle Studio works with DV format (I assume your camcorder is DV also) and DVD's use MPEG format. You would first have to "capture" your camcorder footage to your computer hard drive, then make menus, chapters, etc. and convert to DVD/MPEG format (which can take hours, depending on your computer speed).

If you want the simplicity of going directly from camcorder to DVD, then you should buy a settop DVD recorder with DV input. The only problem with this method is menus are simplistic and chapter markers can't be put where you want them.

yes thats right my camcorder has a dv connection........

Using the dv connection on camcorder I plug the other end into the firewire port onto my pc...this enables me to save directly onto hdd using studio 8...

However I just wondered if it was at all possible going from camcorder using dv connection directly to dvd...I guess the second post answers my question...

I live in london, UK and was wondering if anyone knew of a dvd recorder I could use to capture directly from camcorder to blank dvd using the dv connection on my camcorder?

Thanks for all your help so far its been really useful

That is what I was going to suggest. Look for a DVD recorder with DV format IEEE-1394 in. The DVD recorder will make the conversion to MPeg2 in hardware and either store the result to an internal hard disk, or directly burn the DVD. I'm not familiar with UK models.
