    Hi,

I am using an inexpensive capture product (Easycap) and Ulead software to capture, edit and burn 8mm camcorder tape contents to DVD. So the set up is just playing tape via the camcorder and connecting this to the PC via the Easycap and then editing etc via Ulead software. I have one fundamental problem and wonder is there any obvious way of improving upon it - namely, capturing is fine but in playback for editing on Ulead, I notice that if the subject material is in anyway active above normal (e.g. standing, talking, gently walking) such as a moving car, a running child etc) then the subject is "streaky". I presume this must be something to do with capture speed? and if yes, are there any obvious rectifications to try first.

    Many thanks,

I would suggest a little troubleshooting to find the actualy problem. After capturing a file, play it back in your media player. If it exhibits the problem noted above, then you are likely having a capturing issue and a little tweaking will need to be done. If it plays back normally, then try opening it in your editing software.

It is likely one of two things, bad capturing or just abnormal playback in the editing software. Many editing programs suffer from similar issues, they are meant for editing, not playback/viewing.

This sounds to me that what you are seeing in your editing software is the effect of interlacing in your source footage, which is NOT a problem and is completely normal. Interlacing is not apparent when it's played back as a finished DVD. I suggest creating a short test DVD, using a DVD-RW(or +RW) so you can reuse the disk, and play that to see if the problem vanishes. Good Luck and Happy Holidays!!!
