  1. Hi folks,

Just 2 quick questions to the general populace.

Has anyone had issues with receiving damaged discs in tape wrap? I've gotten some spindles of TYG02 from SuperMediaStore.com, which has always been excellent, and about a third of the spindle has what looks to be wear marks on the outter edges, like the discs were spun inside the tape wrap.

Also, a similar question - anyone gotten blank discs that look like they've been spray painted on the writable side? I'm again referring to the TYG02 from SuperMediaStore.com, as mentioned above. Over the past few months I've gotten discs from them that have small spots on the writable side, usually around the edges and sometimes closer toward the hub, that looks like spray paint. Sometimes the discs burn okay, other times they don't, and they're mixed in with pristine discs in the same spindle. O_O

    Thanks in advance!

With any issues on questionable media I just return them. I don't open the heat shrink packaging. I do not take the chance.

  3. I agree and that's my intent. I was curious if anyone else had similar issues.

I get mine in spindle cake box, so I haven't had that problem.

Same here. Got them from Meritline which also has free shipping. While I do not like the TY cakeboxes, they are better than shrink wrap. Too many discs get trashed in the course of normal handling and shipping.

I've gone through around 800 of the shrinkwrapped TYG02/TYG03 "ValuePacks" from blankmedia.ca here in Canada, and have had no problems of any kind. I've burned perhaps 4 coasters, and some may be my fault.
I thought my aging LG burner was toast, until I read Lord Smurf's info on media, and started buying Taiyo Yuden. The TY Value Packs are an incredible bargain, and extremely reliable in my experience.

If you are getting Taiyo Yuden in anything other than a cake box or spindle box then you are either getting fakes or rejects.

I only order from RIMA.COM as many other websites have proven unreliable with their stock of Taiyo Yuden.

Out of 4x100 tape wrapped packs I've purchased in the last year, I have had zero defects and 100% success rate with my TY discs.

ZERO defects here as well. Same type and same store.

  10. Hmmm... perhaps I'm fated to get the only iffy "Premium TYs" from supermediastore? This pic shows what I'm talking about when I refer to the 'spray paint' look. Again, these 'spray painted' discs sometimes burn fine, others fail, and they're randomly mixed in the same tape-wrapped spindle with prisitine looking discs. :P

Also, I checked Rima.com and their TYs seem to ship in tape wrap also, no mention of a cake or spindle box. I remember the old days when TYs only shipped in 50pack cake boxes... ah, the nostalgia!

If my tape wrapped discs appear damaged or the packaging is insufficient where the taped discs can move around alot inside the package I will ship them back as damaged goods. I got two packages last year like that. One was from meritline, the other I do not remember. I remember meritline because they gave me trouble on a follow up shipment some months later.

When you receive media that does not meet your qualifications or begins burning coasters. Contact the company and return the entire package.

I've only seen that defect on spindle packed disks. These are not Locked" from spinning by the double wrapped tape TYs usually come in. I usually end up having to toss the first and last one or two disks in the spindle packed stack. Have not had any problems with the Tape wrapped TYs. The only danger is peeling the tape off. If you aren't carefull you can end up with a pile of disks everywhere. I kept and empty 100 disk spindle onto which I pre load the taped ones, once I remove the two tabs that cover the two holes. I keep the tape on, exposing only what I need. Keeps the rest secure and free from spinning against each other.

I have an old cake box from a pack of CD-R I bought years ago that I use for my TY discs. What I do is lift off the 2 hole covers, then on the bottom of the pack I lift back the tape and place the discs on the spindle. Once I have it sitting there, I hold down the discs firmly and peel the rest of the tape back.

And Voila, the discs are on the spindle with no spillage
