    I am looking for a quick , easy and down and dirty tool that I can cut out portions of
    my home movies and save the cutouts as their own files.
    Reason being I have dozens of movies of my kids and I want to cut out the sections of each kid and make a dvd of just their own stuff.

    what format are they? For AVI, try VirtualDub, for MPEG, try Cuttermaran.
