I've been fixing for the last few days a certain model of PMP. Mainly replacing DVD Drives, some Motherboards, and a few of the data cables connecting the Mobo to the drive.
These are units that were sent in for warranty and the repaired units will be used for warranty replacments.
What is interesting to me is that when playing the DVDs I never knew the laser was strong enough to show through the disk.
The thing seems to have no region setting
If you put in for example The Matrix instead of sitting through the intor stuff you can hit Stop. The the Next button and start playing the movie
IOWs I can ignore the studios playback controls. Overall plays DVDs the way I would want a player to work ignoring the studios controls Now if I could only get a player for teh TV that worked this way without having to do any hacks. As is I have to backup all DVDs I watch since I can not stand the way the studios want to control waht I see before I ever get to the main menu.
I'm a little surprised it seems to ignore region controls. If I had the cables here that plug into the AV out I would take one home to see if it also doesn't put out any copy protection.
I hear we will be getting in the boxes to rebox these so Maybe I'll get a chance to try the experiment.
