I've got a G3 600Mhz, 512MB RAM. Currently running 9.2.2 (will be 10.3 in a few hours). DVDSP 1.1 will not install, refuses to be put on anything other than a G4. Is there a way around this? I know people have put it on a G3 in the past and gotten it to work, just not sure how it was done.

Are there any G3-friendly versions of DVDSP out there?

    smurfy,
    go here:

I asked this same question a month or so ago

Pay close attention to Jake's answers, specifically Q14

  3. I helped him do this yesterday. The answer is easy to find in Google

Works even better if you have OS X installed.

I don't know about it being easy to find in Google, as I did several searches and came up with nothing. At any rate, thanks for the help. I knew it was possible, it was just a matter of finding somebody that is knowledgeable on Mac and video software.

So how was it done? The key is to install software on a G4 first, then copy the installed set of files back off to disc and dump them on the G3. It's really that easy. Avoiding the installer was all that needed to be done.

So much for answer Q14 and the "cannot do it" answers you find in most places online, especially official documents.

    Look at this:

    WELL HOWDEEDOO!
    check you out....

I'm guessing the G3 600 is an iMac (bubble style)?
As Apple didn't make any stock machines that
were 600mhz other than the iMac and the iBook?

Does it have a built in superdrive(drd-r/rw burner)
upgrade, or are you going external?
How are you going to (plan on) burn the builds you create in
    DVDSP?

iMac, Indigo, RAM upgraded, slot loader. I'll transfer single-layer author jobs back to the PC through the network and burn from there. For DL work, I'll end up grabbing a Pioneer 111 drive and stick it in an external enclosure. The Mac is mostly for authoring. DVDSP simply does things no other current PC software can do. There is some trouble with DVDSP in preview mode, but I'm not done yet either, there may be ways around it. Still a lot of stuff to figure out, some on my own, some with help.

Ha ha you did not search the newsgroup portion of google

just had to type "dvd studio pro on a g3" in the news area 8)

    http://groups.google.com/groups/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=dvd+studio+pro+on...g3&qt_s=Search

The preview mode may work yet, trying a couple of things. It is due mainly to the Apple DVD Player requirements. If you can get a firewire dvd burner on that machine it may work correctly as Apple DVD Player will not launch if it cant detect certain hardware.

It will be interesting to see just how high in release DVD Studio Pro works with that method, I would imagine 2 and 3 may function similar since you are not going to be opting to run Compressor (thus not needing the install program run) and already have a quality version of A Pack from the 1.5 release.
