  2. Why would you want to change it? Divx and Xvid are essentially the same. If you reencode it you are going to lose some quality.

If you really must, open the Divx file in Gspot and look at the bitrate used. Then encode it into Xvid using the same bitrate.

  3. Question that comes to mind is why?

Having said that, if you re-encode Divx to Xvid and keep the same file size there will be some quality loss.

If you must, avirecomp might be the tool you need.

That doesn't change the encoding though, just the name of the codec required. The unanswered question is still "Why do this ?"

...but besides getting it in another format (which is kinda obvious); Again why? It will only look worse, since it has to be reencoded.

  8. Divx and Xvid are both MPEG 4 codecs. It doesn't make any sense to recompress from one to another.

It would be like taking an MPEG2 file created with TMPGEnc and recompressing it with CCE. when you're done you'll have the same thing, just compressed by a different program, and with the additional loss of quality that comes by recomressing.
