    I have only tried Divx converter trial.
    Is there some other tool that can convert movies into *.divx format?

    Well there's always virtualdub and all its variations. Though as far as i know it only does .avi extensions. But you still get to use the divx/xvid codec.

    Try using CLoneDVDMobile as it can do divx format and convert a 90 minute movie in under 30 minutes

    It doesnt work for converting šnormal˝ mpeg-2 videos. Do you know some other tool?

    you can convert to .avi with divx 6 using for example virtualdub and then make it .divx with for example DivXMediaBuilder. the .divx format is just a container.

    DivX is AVI

    The .divx extension is just what the spyware part of the divx bundle package puts on the file to force you to use their spyware player.

    If you're going to install the DivX codec then choose only the codec on install, not the whole package then all your DivX files will have a .avi extension.

    im not even gonna get into this with you, but first off their player does NOT contain spyware...secondly, DivX isn't nessacerily ALWAYS avi, and divx is a container that can hold multiple audio streams, and subtitles along with the video as well and it also supports menus (a rather pain in the neck to make menus for it at the moment, though) so PLEASE for the love of god, learn what your talking about before you speak.
