    Hi Everyone,

    I am attempting to burn a Nero image to a DVD. I have done this many times (both for images and single files) using a number of different Nero versions and a number of different DVD and CD media on the same DVD burner Hardware, an LG 4040B (Firmware A302).

    All of a sudden, without rhyme, reason or warning I cannot burn any DVD-R's and Nero is giving me a Focus or Tracking Error. Nothing on my system has changed (hardware or software) and I am using Nero V6.6.0.16. I have tried to do a burn using Simulation and this also fails with the same error. The media I have tried are a TDK and Verbatim DVD-R, both of which have worked in the past and to add to this mystery I have had no problem burning onto a TDK DVD-RW.

    I have attempted to Google this problem, but found no definative answers, so I thought I would try this forum, as people here have been helpful in the past. Any suggestions or directions would be welcome.

    If I weere to take a guess, I would be looking at the hardware. It is a.) the logical cause of such an error, and b) the common point, having tried different media and different versions of Nero.

    Things to try;

    1. Attempt to burn with different software - imgburn or XP burner Pro are both freeware. If you use imgburn you will may also need imgtools classic to create the ISO.

    2. Try a lens cleaner on the drive.

    OK!!

    To add a little more mystery and frustration to the problem, I have just managed to burn a DVD (TDK), with no issues and with successful verification.

    No even sure what to think or how to proceed at this point.

    OPen the case and make sure the IDE cables are properly seated in their sockets. Ditto for the power cable going into the burner. I still suspect the lens, but intermittent failure is always a bitch to track down a cause for.

    First thing I checked was all the cabling. I reseated all the IDE cables and made certain that the writer was also the only device on the IDE channel. I also checked the power and made certain that there was enough power going to the writer.

    I guess giving the lens a clean could be a good thing, but I have always been reluctant to do this. What method/kit do you recommend?

    I Prefer shammi based cleaners, rather than brushes.
