As per my previous thread, I need a new TV. I was wondering if I should ask my boss for a day off to look at TV's. It's not like anything is pressing at work, but I'm not sure if I should make up some sort of excuse, but I have no idea how much the boss likes TV, etc.

I am also trying to decide between CRT and LCD type of TV also.

Don't get LCD for TV. CRT or plasma is the only choice there.

Sure, provided you use a vacation day. Otherwise go shopping in your off-hours.

If I find out you are under my supervision, I garantee that you will be watching TV all they once I finish with you. LOL

On a serious note, you don't need to explain exactly why you want a day off, if you have Leave hours to spend, just do your paperwork and request one day vacation.

I would be using a vacation day, of course. Duh. I get plenty of them. And why no LCD TV?

Actually I have done some serious looking and concluded that I will most likely just get a cheap TV so I can throw it away in 3 years when ones with the digital tuners come out. For some reason the manufacturers are only including the digital tuners for TV's 27" or more (something like that). Makes no sense to me, but that's the way it is. I can't even get a VCR with one either unless it's a HDTV VCR, which I don't want.

I think I have found my real problem. I need a TV that's going to tie me over until the following laws take effect:

Here's a list of other important dates and the consumer electronics devices they affect:

July 1, 2006 - 100% of 25-35" TVs must include ATSC DTV tuner (right now only 50% required)
July 1, 2007 - 100% of 13-24" TVs must include ATSC DTV tuner
July 1, 2007 - 100% of all interface devices must have ATSC DTV tuner (VCR, DVD player/recorder, DVR)

So I won't be able to buy anything new until after July 1, 2007!

Because they're garbage. Unless you buy the +$2000 ones watching TV on them is horrible. The only thing they got going is that they're thin and light.

I ended up buying an Insignia 20" TV at Best Buy for $100 + tax. I fI throw it out in a year or so after I can get a TV I might actually like, I won't be too upset. It's actually not as bad as I thought it would be. I can't really tell much of any difference between it and my old Samsung even thoug the Samsung cost 4X as much 4.5 years ago. Was even a few pounds lighter so I was more easily able to carry it around by myself.

Tha asking if I should take off of work was to see what a group of people who presumably love TV would say. I wasn't expecting the vote to be that lopsided. Had my boss actually not been out during the week, and I was at a reasonable place in my work such that I was definately going to meet my deadline, then the would have said yes to a day off of work if I had asked.

I thought the HDTV LCD types I saw in the stores were actually pretty good.

They look pretty decent in the store with an HD feed but get it home with dim lights and with just a regular signal and you'll be surprised.

Possibly true, but I was thinking that when they start making them with built in HDTV tuners, I 'd mostly be watching on the air HDTV anyway.
