one movie is about 90minutes long.....but since its not really DVD quality...isnt it a waste it transcode the movie at 5000kbs?
Should I just put like 2 movies and transcode at 2500kbs ad have two movies in one dvd disc? The orginal souce is not as great quality as DVD, so I dont think you need to put one movie on one disc right?
Since the source is not DVD quality. The quality will be the same regardless if ur transcoding at 5000 or 2500 kbs right ?
Basically I have two Dvix movies and about 600 megs each...I was wondering if I can put two movies on one DVD w/o losing quality..thanks man

The compression scheme that DivX uses (MPEG-4 based) is much better then MPEG-2 (DVD video) at compressing video. To maintain the same visual quality as the DivX, I've found that you need a much larger bitrate for MPEG-2's... Just try a few different encodes and see what the lowest bitrate is where you don't notice any decrease in quality. If your source is pretty high resolution, and appears clear, I'd recommend 4000k VBR encoding. Unfortunately, if you wanted to put 2 90 minute movies on one disc, you'd need a bitrate of 3159 on each movie (with 224kbs audio). I'd think this might be pretty low if you want to preserve sharp detail (TMPGEnc defaults to 1/2 D1 resolution for this bitrate).

does your theory works on Avi also? So instead of divx movies..lets say they are avi movies...

If I have DivX/XviD movies that are 702MB or smaller, I just put them on a CD and play them in my Philips 642. If they're too big for a CD or if I have a bunch of small movies then I burn them on a Data DVD. I've found it is alot cheeper and alot less time consuming to go this route. For the cost of a good spindle of DVDs you can buy a DivX player and low quality DVDs make good Data DVDs.
