  1. I made a family DVD for my parents with 50 years of movie footage and photos. All their grandkids were in it, but a new one has been born recently. The only good place to insert a picture of the baby is in a section of camcorder footage of all the grandkids arranged for a photo.

Is there any way to add a photo to the corner of the footage (not an overlay of the entire thing obviously, just "pasted" into the scene. It's all in DVD format now but I likely could get the original DV footage if needed.

I know enought to take the DVD apart with Tmpg DVD Author, add a section if need be, then re-author it. I just don't know how to superimpose the photo into that small section.

No pay programs. I have other ways to do this, just not quite what I wanted. It's not worth spending any money on at all. But if free I'll do it.

    Thanks as always.

There is a Virtualdub filter that can do that. Trust me...I am no expert at Virtualdub but I was experimenting and noticed that filter. It works pretty well but will definately require that you "tear apart" that DVD and completely re-do it.

  3. Thanks for the suggestion of trying VDub. I can't figure out how to do it in VDub, but I'm no expert either. Also, it's currently a DVD file so I assume I need to convert to avi or something to do this.

I may just add the photo on it's own to the video, although it's not the preferred solution. Anyone else know how to do this?

    Thanks.

  5. Thanks for the ideas, but I haven't been able to get anything to do what I want yet. It doesn't seem "impossible" so I'm bumping this up one more time in the hope that someone knows how to add a photo to a DVD section as described in my first post in this thread. Thanks.

MVW will accept a VOB as input and allow full editing, including adding stills. It will only re-encode the parts as necessary. Free for 30 days.

You can always try VirtualDubMod, it will accept VOBs as input. Use the logo filter to overlay an image over the video ("Video - filters - add" will get you there). Drawback: you get an AVI as output so you will need to re-encode. I think you need to resize the photo first.

  8. OK, thanks all. Here's where I am (pretty close I think). I concluded that it was best to just replace the 2 sec clip with a still photo. This let me do a better job adding the last baby to the grandkid clip. So NOW here's what I have.

The original 1 hr. video in a Video_TS file with 4 VOBs making up the video. I also encoded the photo to mpeg2. So now what I have to do is go into one of the VOBs and replace 2 sec with the new mpeg2 video. I need to leave the original soundtrack intact.

Anyone have a way to do this? I assume I can use VDubMod but I've never demuxed video/audio with it before and I'm not sure that is what I need to do.

    Thanks.
