I'm not sure what's wrong with this. Any ideas why the audio might stutter when played back on my Philips DVP-642 and what the best way to fix it might be?
thanks!

The frame rate shows its a pal video. Can that model play pal files???? That might be part of your problem.

PAL is no problem on the DVP642.
DIV3 was a problem with early firmware revs. Update to newer firmware if you have an old rev.
VBR MP3 can cause problems too. You can try reencoding the audio to CBR.

It's probably the firmware, I haven't updated it in several years. Any idea what the recommended version is (I probably don't care all that much about macrovision). I'll give that a shot first before reencoding, but I don't think it's the VBR. For example, this one plays fine

firmware 1109 didn't do it, not sure if there is a newer one, 1109 is 2 years old but was the newest I could find.

I'm surprised reading it, because I never had any problem with divx3 on dvp642 with any - including earliest - firmware.
I would say your file(s) aren't exactly kosher... either encoded or burnt not right.
Ive seen my dvp642 stutter on many files that were made with nandub and its idiotic way of multiplexing VBR audio.
Demultiplex the file, reencode the audio, and multiplex it back with existing video, and Im almost sure the problem will go away. -
There is a region free hack you can use with the new firmware.
Left column, dvd players, search for 642 -

the one byte missing may be causing your problems. run the file thru virtualdub and try it again.
