Always burn near the rated speed. If you have 16x media, either burn at 16x or at 12x. If you have 8x media, burn at 8x or 6x. This will vary according to the brand of media, but as a rule, I always burn just under the rated (software recommended) speed. For example, if I have 8x media, and DVDCRYPTER tells me it can burn it a 4x, 6x, 8x, or 12x, I will burn it at 8x or 6x. With my Plextor drive, using Taiyo Yuden or Verbatims, I will burn at 16x all day long. I get just as good of burns at 16x, as I do at 12x or 8x. But that doesn't work for all burners, and all media, hence the recommendation to go just under the rated speed. Best thing is to experiment and find what works best for you, your burner, your media...

Your Available Write Descriptors go from 6x to 16x. Therefore, I would pick 12x to have the best between quality and speed. If you are using high quality media, (Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden), go ahead and burn at 16x.
