at high res / low bitrate (480x480 @ less than ~1800 kbps), CCE.

  5. For MPEG2 use CCE, for MPEG1 TMPGenc gives slightly better results. However, CCE is MUCH MUCH faster than TMPGenc, so that's another factor to consider.

Normally I use DVD2SVCD w/ CCE for DVD rips. And TMPGenc for DivX/captures -> xVCDs w/ TMPGenc.

I find CCE better with all (even MPEG-1). However, there's some issues with MPEG-1 where the program doesn't act right, so TMPGEnc is a little more stable.

Otherwise, the MPEG-2 quality on CCE is far and away better than any competition. Not $4,000 worth of better, but better nonetheless. TMPGEnc is totally useless for SVCD, unless you use full CBR SVCD bitrates the whole time(2520 or so).

CCE allows me to put a whole 90 to 100-minute movie on ONE SVCD DISC, STANDARD SVCD RESOLUTION (480x480) with quality double that of a normal TMPGEnc VCD! (That's if you sit back 3-4 feet, granted).

    Great stuff

Is there an idiot-proof guide on how to get CCE going?

Dont say Sefy's because I did and its all over the place and it doesnt specifically write the instructions for say, Flask and CCE or DVDx and CCE.

    Try this guide: http://www.doom9.org/mpg/cce.htm
Do you think, it isn't enough? Let me know, then I can add some lines. But I use dvd2avi only, don't ask me for flask or DVDx.
Edit: Avisynth / MPEG2DEC instead of VFAPI
    Azid instead of Graphedit.
