  1. A couple of my AVI compatable utility programs are crashing with the message that a certain necessary dll is not found:

    AdavAudioDec.dll

There are a few things about this that really have me puzzled. The identical error message has appeared on two different pieces of software, VideoMach and AVI to MPG converter. There is absolutely no mention of this dll anywhere on the web The Microsoft Knowledge base also claims total ignorance. I can't imagine a software component existing, especially one whose absence will crash software, without some mention of this somewhere. Interestingly enough, both of these pieces of software I paid $$ for. Most of my software is freeware, which is not causing me problems! Any ideas?

  2. Geeezzz... This often happens and it's somewhat embarrassing. Posting problems on a forum forces me elucidate the problem clearly so as to be able to post it, after which I am able to solve the specific glitch. The inclusion of the specific string "Audio" in "AdavAudioDec.dll" narrows it down quite a bit. Almost all my clips eventually have their native soundtracks wiped so that I can put on a music track, etc. It may well be that this AdavAudioDec.dll is a temporary file created by some video utility programs as an audio handler. If I do this step early in my workflow, a file without sound data is accessed by some of the post-processing software which expects to produce the dll in question when is meets the sound track. The audio isn't there, the dll is not written, and the software that expects it crashes. That's my theory, anyway. I sent a number of clips through with soundtrack complete and they all worked fine. A workaround, probably in VirtualDub, would be to load a soundless file, NOT to specify video only, but to instead choose "Source Audio". This should create a soundtrack, albeit empty, everything should stay happy. I'm still a bit puzzled, however, that this little bump in the road is not documented, at least that I could find...
