I have several AVI files that I am trying to convert to DVD. When I watch them on my PC the picture is very good, but when I encode them and watch them on my DVD the video is poor quality.

I ran the original AVI file through Gspot 2.52 and it comes up as 624 X 352 and 23.976 fps. After encoding the file through tmpGEMC source creator I run the mpg through Gspot and the video comes up as 352 X 240 and 29.97 fps. Is this the reason for the poor quality?

I noticed on TmpGENC Plus that you can adjust the output, by adjusting the output file to match the original file, will this make the video better?

    Yes, probably.

You'd do better to encode to 23.976 and at 352x480.

Better yet, use Procoder 2, and encode to 29.97 interlaced at 352x480. That restores interlace, including hiding chroma errors from the IVTC previously done.

This is the encoded file using tmpGENC Source Creator. Do you see anything wrong here? The video almost shakes after converting it.

I'd encode to Full D1 (720 x 480/576), either keeping the original 624 x 352 and padding out with black, or alternatively resizing up whilst keeping aspect ratio.

You may even consider buying this on DVD when it is released:

    If in doubt, Google it.

Any particular reason why you have put it in a word document ?
