    Hi everyone,

I just ordered a Toshiba 72HM195-72 Inch 1080p DLP Projection Tv, and need to get a good
dvd player to go with it. So I figured I'd ask the experts. Do I need to get one that upconverts?
If so which brand is the best? Do I need one that upconverts to 1080p?

One more quick question, I read somewhere that analog cable looks better thru a
S video connection. How do I do that or is it something the cable company has to do?

    Thanks for thr help everyone....

My first instinct would be to buy an upconverting DVD player so you can get hi-def without buying HD-DVD or Blu-Ray (some people say upconvertors aren't quite as good, but close. YMMV.) I'm sure someone will chime in with their favorite model but Oppo players are considered to be awesome, though not they are not the cheapest ones available.

Some players do indeed improve upon the image of a non upconverted image, but they are not even close to HD.

    for a recommended DVD player.

As far as your cable, find out if the cable company has an hd-dvr (usually a Scientific Atlanta 8300hd).

If they do that's the route you'll want to take. If not at least get an hd receiver.

It depends on the TV and who you ask. As always, Your Mileage May Vary.

Not really . An upconverting DVD player can not add detail to an image, so it can not, even theoretically, match HD. What an upconverting player does primarily is to make sure the result doesn't look terrible on the HD TV, which a lot of DVDs will do otherwise.

The only time when upconverted DVD would look close to as good as HD would be when the HD movie was really, really crappy.
