It's been a couple of years since I record my home movies in 16:9 format (I have a Canon DV).

Is there a DVD Recorder out there that would capture that and create a widescreen format DVD?

I remember I once captured the data with an old Nero Vision Express and it didn't recognized it as widescreen but a 4:3 and all the shots were with thin people, thin cars, etc.

I don't want to get a recorder that does the same thing

    Has anybody actually tried this?

I don't think is similar to recording a letterbox show or HD content. I think the he DV camcoder does some "pixel aspect change" if I remember well.

    Thanks

  2. Sony, Toshiba and others allow you to set the AR flag for recording. Some units with DV input recognize the 16:9 flag in your DV camcorder stream and automatically record the DVD that way. Also, even if you have a DVD recorder that does not have these features, you can change the AR flag of any MPEG2 video file from 4:3 to 16:9 on your computer with ReStream (the file is re-saved, not re-encoded so there is no quality loss).
