Do you have the title in hand? You should just have to sign the title over to the next owner, you will both sign the back of the title where indicated. Its the new owners responsiblity to get it registered & licensed then.

The car will be mine. Where do I take it after that?

    Also I found this site.
    https://actweb.acttax.com/act_webdev/fbc/VehicleRegistration/TransferTXLicense.jsp

Which seems to suggest I need some form and stuff, but thats NOT my county so I'm not sure.

You will need to go to the DMV (dept of motor vehicles) for your county, just call them and ask them what you need to bring with you.
most likely, the title, proof of insurance, and maybe a bill of sale.

Guess it would vary by state but here in PA you and the owner go to a Notary Public. Both sign the title for transfer, you also pay the state sale tax, and some other odds and ends. Notary gives the new owner a temporary title, Notary also files the paperwork in the state capital and puts his seal on the title transfer. If you're the purchaser you can also get tempory tags and temporary registration.

State by state does vary, thats why you should call your local DMV.

Ok, I do have to fill out a form and get them to sign it. Then take it, the signed over title, and proof of insurance. So thats that.

What car? None, its my car. It technally speaking has never been in my name. But an insurance company owes me cash from when it was still being paid for and won't write a check out to just me until I can fax them a copy of the title with my name and only my name on it.

So basicly I'm getting about $1000 for some footwork. Its worth it.

Here in PA you don't need proof of insurance for a title transfer, only if you want to register and get temporary tags which you need to drive it. I sold a car few years ago and the guy that bought it did just that. It ened up getting towed from where ever he drove it too and I got a letter telling me so because it was still mine in the official record but since I had a copy of the title transfer it really wasn't... The guy that towed it is a known scam artist and he's trying to tell me I'm responsible, since the guy who bought it only paid $200 I knew he wasn't going to go get it. With a giant smile I told the tow guy that... then mentioned the fact that I had a set of keys that he would never see.... then hung up the phone. Almost not worth it to do anything with the car without keys. Ahhh the satisfaction of the little things in life.
