I'm using my Winfast TV/2000 XP to record Satellite TV program into AVI, which I encode later to DVD using TMPGenc. The output is from my RF connector in the decoder directly into my TV Tuner. However the result is not satisfactory because the recording quality looks a little fuzzy, similar to VCD quality. In fact, the quality difference between DVD & VCD for the same picture is almost the same, making MPG2/AVI recording with this TV Tuner is almost useless.
I know that the recording quality of this tuner is not superb. This might be the reason.
Can anyone suggest another tuner with known high-quality AVI/DVD recording ? Perhaps in the range of $100-150 ?

You might look into the Hauppauge cards. The cheapest one is the 150, but I would recommend the 250 or better. There are plenty of posts on our site about the cards and most seem to have little problems. It hardware encodes to MPEG-2, which is not the best for editing, but nice for quick and easy conversion to DVD. Look to 'Capture Cards' to the left for more info. <<<<<<

Use s-video instead of coax. You'll get a better picture. If you can't use s-video use composite.
