I feel like such an idiot, but i cannot get media video 9 to start up. I have downloaded media video 9 at http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Codec-Packs-Video-Codecs/Microsoft-Windo...ideo-VCM.shtml

and installed it at the computer without any problems. But now in Program Files there are only these items:

    Film-320x240-vbr.wv9
    Film-640x480-vbr.wv9
    Film-1280x720-vbr.wv9
    license
    NTSC-vbr.wv9
    PAL-vbr.wv9
    qNTSC-vbr.wv9
    qPAL-vbr.wv9
    WMV9VCM
    WMV9VCM_readme

In the Readme file i found minimum system requirements:

The following hardware and software are required to use the Windows Media Video 9 VCM compressor:

    >>>Operating system
Requirement: Microsoft Windows 98 SE, Microsoft Windows Me, Microsoft Windows NTŪ 4.0, Microsoft Windows 2000, or Microsoft Windows XP.

    Processor, memory, and disk space
The system specifications required to use the Windows Media Video 9 VCM compressor are determined by the application that interfaces with the VCM driver. Refer to your software documentation for details.<<<

Operating system isn't a problem, but i am not sure what the second part means.

What am i doing wrong. Why cannot i find an icon with which i can start Media Video 9?

    Any help is much appreciated.

it's no standalone application, it's an encoder codec that you can use in other applications.

if you want a wmv encoder try wme or wmm.

if you want windows media player download wmp.

I am trying to compress a .avi file and found on another site that Media Video 9 could be used for that.

I have Windows Movie Maker on my computer. Are you saying that i can compress the file using Media Video 9 in Windows Movie Maker?
