DVD Lab is a lo more advanced in my view than Architect. Though in capable hands either will produce excellent menus. Architect can create DVDs from QT files some Avis as well as of source MPG2 DVD complient files. The others will be re encoded during the final conversion.

DVD lab can handle VOBs, muxed or demuxed ( elementary stream ) files. It is a lot pickier as to what it is fed. Seems to have more advanced features than Architec. To me architecs does works perfectly hand in hand with Sony Vegas.
Capture your DV footage in vegas, edit and render. Load rendered files into Architect, author and produce your DVD.

Lab is and independent authoring program that satnd on its own.

Architect is also a hell of a lot more expensive than Lab.

Are they 100% foolproof. Well,,, not really. Just do a search in this forum for people's
" Problems" specially with lab and you will always find many examples.
Most if not ALL can be atributed to people simply not taking the time to properly learn them and or insisting on inporting crap they have dowloaded ( probably Warez ) instead of feeding them the proper high quiality format files.

You appear to want to get into DVD production. Best thing to do is to stick to proven practices. If you do, you will not have many problems down the road. Read and learn as much as you can. Get the trials and test the hell out of them. Then decide on what fits your personality and learning curve and can still produce a quality refined final product.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!
