There is no quality loss at all. You're not doing anything to either stream. You're joining and outputting direct streams.

There is no quality of loss using the "append" feature .

However , this is only for video and audio with exact matching feature's .
Example : a single avi video movie title with rubbish cliped out .

Append is not intended for the joining of avi's that contain mixed information .
    Example :

    1 : Divx at 320x240 , video bitrate of 1100 , mp3 at 228kpbs
    2 : Xvid at 352x288 , video bitrate of 850 , mp3 at 96kpbs

This is where quality can become a factor .

I've only used virtualdub once before only to cut video. This time I've used the guides to join avi files but I am having difficulty with different audio rates. Using Gspot I get this information:

Your screenshots appear to show MP3 VBR audio. That could be the problem. You might want to save the Audio out as a WAV and reencode to CBR. You could also adjust the audio rates when you do that if needed.

Don't know how to do that. So now I am going to uncompress audio into pcm form with video intact and then join them with virtualdub. Then see what happens when I prep the video for DVD.
