they will start their high-def stream on May 11. Keep in mind that this is a limited trial only and you need to be on the "list" to receive the signal. Telewest will be able to receive the signal right off the bat with Sky shortly there afterward's. Sky will start to install the necessary equipment on May 22. The programming seems limited but will certainly grow with time.

Will these be newer productions or just upscaled "are you being served?" from the 1820's??

I'd watch Fawlty Towers especially Polly Sherman (Connie Booth's) live nipplish performances. Did they shoot those in 35mm ... please ?

  10. HD is an example of cart before horse marketing: there are few HD broadcasts and only then on Sky/Telewest; HDTV sales are up but few people will receive those transmissions.

We get a varierty of BBC 1080i HD productions (experimental?) over here including 3hrs each of the 2004 and 2005 last night of the PROMs with 5.1 Dolby! Also BBC opera and rock concerts in HD. They're building a programming library.

  12. No question about that: they're building a little archive to sell in HD DVD format when HDTV penetration is large enough. Not entirely sure it's worth the licence fee though. Let Sky pander to a customer need and then when the HDTV numbers are high enough the BBC can invest.

    All? Really?

That license fee must have gone real high.
