nobody seems to post in that forum anymore so im posting here.im new at all this and i got this far.im confused about section 4.why do you convert the vid into mpeg format when the step before using tmpeg you convert the vid to dvd .m2v format?when in dvd maestro do you use the vids that were reencoded in mpeg-vcr or the ones in .m2v?

    Okay, explanation, I think.

An MPEG2 stream can be a regular "system-type" stream, which contains both video and audio, or it can be an "elementary stream", which would contain ONLY video, or ONLY audio.

m2v is just a different extension for the "video only MPEG-2 stream". It's STILL MPEG2. (Mpeg 2 video, get it? M2V!)

DVD format just means the video is resized and otherwise manipulated to be DVD standard compliant. It's STILL MPEG-2.

MPEG2VCR is an editor, not an encoder. All it does is cut-and-paste, so to speak.

The author wanted to process the video and audio separately, then multiplex them back together, THEN edit (since if you edit them separately you'll likely screw up and they won't match any more.)

So think of the process as this way

    Source
    V V
    Vid Aud
    V V
    M2v AC3 or MP3
    \ /
Muxed MPEG2 (system stream, contains both video and audio)
    V
    edit with MPEGVCR
    V
dump into DVD Maestro for authoring

I'd say it is expecting progressive video.

    Tried the manual ?

I'm sure you don't need Maestro to do this though. Just had a copy of it lying around ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

There are two very simple ways to find guides

    1. Look up the tool in the tools section, click on it, then scroll down. You will usually find a lit of guides associated with that tool.

    2. Seach the User Guides forum. I know it's kind of obscure and all, but the name is a bit of a give away. In it you will find things like this https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=220092
