Hello All,
I am making XviDs out of few home videos that I have. After reading through many guides and trying to play around, I decided to go ahead with avi.net
Now with the limited options it offers, I decided to go ahead with quality (or quant??) option that it offers. I made XviD at q2 & q3 and DivX at q3 & q4. Honestly, I can't see any difference in both the videos, neither on PC screen nor on TV (My TV isn't good anyway) but I want to keep best among these ones so I looked at more details in GSpot, the bitrate ranges from 1992kbps down to 1126kbps and bits/pixel ratio from 0.509 to 0.288. Now if I decide to go by the numbers, what is the minimum bitrate and bits/pixel ratio one should expect to have reasonably OK quality??
I am sure, everybody will have different opinion but is there any yardstick to stick in certain range??
Many thanks

As a general rule, bigger is better when it comes to bitrate, however that assumes that all other factors are equal, and they generally aren't. If you can't trust your eyes, and need to be reassured by statistics, you might want to look at these links

Personally, if it looks the best, it is the best, regardless of what the numbers say. If you can't tel the difference, either take the smallest and fit more to a disc, or take the biggest because one day you might own a TV that shows up the problems.
The best yardstick is your eyeballs.Read my blog here.
