Hi,
I would like to setup a kinda CCTV system this is how I would like it to work:
3 webcams (dont know if i need something other than a webcam??) 1 in each room, then I would like them to be displayed onto 3 - 5 different monitors in another room....
But I dont need motion sensors on the capture device (I dont think) i will of course switch the cameras on and off as and when needed...
Can I use wireless webcams? Are they cheap? If they are wireless webcams how does the setup work and know where to project the images?
Please can you kindly explain how and the best setup I should use?
Thanks in advance
Cheers

If you don't need high resolution, or are on a budget, take a look at the X10 units. Here's one company in the UK that seems to carry them. http://www.simplyautomate.com/GuideToCCTV.asp?Cat1=29
I'm not particularly recommending that company. But try a Google search for X10,UK and you should get back several sites that sell them. They are not the best video quality, but they work well for the price. They are wireless, can feed individual monitors, or you can have the cameras switched so that you only need one monitor, or four pictures on one screen.
If you want something more high tech or higher resolution, then regular security cameras may be the way to go. If it's a security issue, you don't really want cheap equipment. I've spent $200US for a B&W camera, another $100US for the lens, then a $300US transmitter and receiver, $400US for a Quad switcher and $800US for a time lapse VCR. And that is a simple system. It can get expensive fast for a high tech system. -
thanks.....thats exactly what I am looking for...
I cant find any X10's in google....
From that link you provided can you actually point me to a system I need as per my specs remember:
3 wireless if poss ( i think its less hassle re: cabling dont know about quality tho??? ) cameras plus 2 - 3 montiors so in affect the user can view diff images on diff montiors?
Thank you very much -
If using wireless, remember there are only 4 channels available so 4 cameras is your maximum. If you neighbour is already using 2 channels...... You talk initially about webcams, but make no mention of a comuputer. A webcam can only be used with a computer and not with video monitors or TVs.
