This is very strange. Anything rate up 8x plays fine in my standalone Panasonic SA-HT80. When I burn a 16x DVD it's a no go but, it will play fine in my Sony DVP-NS575P.

I have tried 2 different types of media. HP DVD-R 16x Manufacturer ID: CMC MAG. AM3 and Sony DVD-R 1 - 16x Manufacturer ID: SONY16D1.

Now I found one thing in common with both media types, the Disc ID. Disc ID: 0@P-!-00. This strange because the Disk ID doesn't show up on any 4 - 8x media but it does for 16x. To make matters worst, burning the disks at a lower speed doesn't help the problem?

Any help short of buying a new surround sound system would be great!

I don't know if this will help but this is the HP 16x info:

    Anyone? Anyone?

Disk ID is the one that's strange to me. As it doesn't show up with 8x media.

I would try a different brand of DVD first. It may not be the problem, but it's the easiest change to make. And you might check both your burners and your standalones against the comments listed in DVD Writers and DVD players to see if there are any problems with your present media.

Other than that, there may be firmware upgrades that might help with the burners. Generally, lowering the writing speed doesn't help that much if you are having problems. A good media should burn at rated speed.

You might try other tools to read the DVD ID: https://www.videohelp.com/tools?s=113#113
