just borrowed a Sony dvd recorder to transfer over a few old vhs tapes, but I have this 'titles list' page at the beginning of each dvd when veiwed, which you have to click on title 1 to proceed. Any way of avoiding this 'titles page' and just going straight into the movie like on a normal dvd ?

Re-author the DVD on your PC using something like TDA.

Thanks Zippy but sounds like a long winded waste of time for such a small inconvinience. I'd rather just press 'play' than re-author each and every one. I thought there might have been something to set, or not set, on the recorder.

    Maybe this thread:

    ... has some answers ?

All you'd do is say "Jump to Title 1" and it should autoplay the first title. Would take less than 30 seconds per DVD + re-burning time.
    If in doubt, Google it.

To each his/her own. Personally I record to a +RW and always re-author to make my own menus (or lack there of) and backgrounds. I hate the menus from the recorders and I don't think you can turn them off.

To answer your original question? No, you cannot really bypass that menu the recorder creates. Besides, if you have 4-5 shows in one disk, don't you want some easy way to navigate between them?
If you really can not stand them, you have to reauthor.

I suppose putting it that way you're right, but for the case where you're putting just one movie its a minor annoyance. It would be nice if they had an option for 'title menu on' - 'title menu off'

The Toshiba RD-XS32 does have the option to start at menu or for the title to start. If you have access to the sony manual it may have a fix for you to start the title when you only have one show on the disc.
