Just upgraded to the new DVD Author Pro which has a few nice little features which I like, ie. Audio on the main menu. But when I use any program other than TMPgEnc 3.0 Xpress to encode AVI files to MPG files I get various errors. Such as,

file cannot be processed using file smart rendering

I prefer to use IMToo MPEG Encoder to convert my AVI files to MPG because its quicker and produces the quality i need,

    Any help would be appreciated.

Are you converting to mpeg or VOB ?

The only thing I can suggest is that perhaps IMToo doesn't create 100% DVD compliant mpeg streams ? It does look a little one-click-wonder-ish to me.

I'm converting to MPEG1 and sometimes MPEG2, there are numerous settings in IMTOO that may make a difference but I cant seem to get DVD Author Pro to accept any MPG files converted using any program other than XPress. Have tried numerous others without success.

Got me thinking it is a way of them making sure you use XPress if you want to use Author Pro

I use Tsunami DVD Author Pro as well and I can tell you that they do not force you to use Tmpgenc Xpress to create usable mpegs.

I create my mpegs using Avisynth and CCE. I also use VOB2MPEG to create mpegs as well as run all of them through VideoRedo to cut out commercials, ensure audio/video sync, etc.

I've never used IMToo Mpeg Encoder, but I can confirm that DVD Author Pro has no problem accepting mpegs created by the software mentioned above.

I use motion Mpeg menus in TDA all of the time....I was always under the assumption that you just couldn't use AC3 in the menu?
I encode my little mpeg snippets with TMPGEnc Plus 2.5.
