  1. I have an avi DivX 4.2.1 movie previously encoded by ffmpegX. Now I wanted to recode it for iPod in my intel iMac. Installed the DivX 6beta2 codec for intel mac, and movie plays fine in QT.

But ffmpegX 0.0.v in the intel iMac just says the avi file is "unrecognized" with "no video" and "no audio". Still the "Play" button starts Mplayer which then plays the movie normally.

Is this just some ffmpegX vs intel problem, or is it something with the DivX 6beta codec?

  2. I think it is unrelated with Intel, I would need a short clip so as I can test. You may send it to me through yousendit.com at major4@mac.com

  3. Arneleijon,

I wanted to ask you a question as well since I too have a new imac intel duo core. You said you had an .avi file that played fine in your QT player. I have a short .avi file (3,000kb) that I can't play in my QT 7.0.4 player. Only audio, no video. What am I doing wrong and how can I play this? I would appreciate yours and any other help on this matter.

  4. I know only that I had to install the intel-version DivX 6beta codec from
    http://labs.divx.com/LatestMacCodec
before I could play any of my avi divx movies in QT on the intel iMac. I do not know if this is any help with your audio-only file. Guess it must depend on how the audio is coded inside your avi container.
Can only wish you best luck.

  5. Thanks for the site. Will try!

    Hey,
I'm having the same kinda problem, except no file will encode properly on my intel iMac. Even files I knew were fine with my PPC G5 awhile ago... That link you posted, arneleijon seems to have gone dead. By searching, I found Divx 6 for intel however it says that a newer version has replaced it and has the same link as you posted, which leads to a dead end. Is the one you got from that link Divx 6 beta 1 or a newer version?
    Thanks
EDIT: By reinstalling the mencoder binary (just by selecting the file again through the ffmpegx/install binaries menu), I can now successfully encode .avi files to ipod mp4 and .mov to avi/divx. I just can't encode or preview asf/wmv or .rm files (even with the gcc3_pb) reallib file, but that might be best in another thread....

  7. Sorry, they have removed that link I used. Their recent macintel DivX 6 beta2 version I am now using is still available at
