With just a basic attempt to transfer from analog 8mm video to MPEG-2, the full-screen image looks fuzzier than I would expect. The preview screen (full screen) looks very little different from the recorded image, so it is clearly either the Plextor capture or the 8mm image as originally recorded. (As I said, recorded images seem to look exactly like the preview, no audio synch problems and no pixellation.)
When I transfer .avi files (clips) from my digital camera and play these full-screen with Windows Media Player, they are much sharper than what I see in the preview window of my Plextor when I try to capture 8mm. (I know .avi is an uncompressed format, but I am comparing this with an 8mm preview, which has not yet been compressed into MPEG-2.)
It may very well be that this is to be expected and I am mostly suspecting that the problem is the 8mm (standard) video itself. But I would like the comments of the experts. I doubt I have a defective Convertx.
Also, could somebody say something *nice* about the ConvertX because I doubt it's as crappy as many suggest. Also, your thoughts about how it rates within its price range.
As always, I am indebted for your help! Thanks very much!
Frank
P.S. I have not gotten so far as burning a DVD and playing it on a standard player, so I don't know how that would look.
