Simple task I want to do but forgot how, I want to basically just type some words, and save it so that i only save the words and NO background. I set the contents to transparent but when I save, theres a white background rather then the text only.

You need to save it in a format that supports layers like PSD, Tiff and PNG. The application reading the files also needs to suport layers to display the transparent Alpha channel properly.

If its for the web, you need to save it as either a gif (best chance of compatibility) or png (better quality but may look weird in some browsers).

I have cs ..... and if I am going to make a simple banner....
1. bring up a new canvas...
2. take my magnitic eraser tool.... and click on the white area... this will make
the canvas transparent as indicated by the little grey squares you will see.....
3. then use your writing tool
4. then save in the appropriate format...
Another way ...when you start a new canvas, in the windox that you get when start a new one... change "background content " to transparent.....
also check your color mode (in the same windows as your background content choice) ......... you need to be in either rgb or cyk .... if your in bmp you will not get the transparency effect... -
What did you save the file as?

I am assuming your saving in gif.... when you save in give..... do you get a windows setup for the file... if so make sure you have transparent box checkmark.. -
@ StoneColdWhat: I'm using Photosgop CS2 (v9.0), but I doubt it'll be much different in v7.0...
1) File -> New
2) Select desired preset, or custom settings on image size.
3) On same pop-up screen, set "Background Contents" as "Transparent". Click OK.
4) Work away on your text - the grey / white checkered background denotes transparent.
5) Save in a format that's compatible with TDA, and that you find preserves the transparent background.
Job done. There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

PNG is the best bet and should be compatible with TDA. If not I'd try the native PSD format.

I take it that means all is well now? If so glad you got it resolved.
