  1. DV captured from my Sony miniDV camcorder. Some parts can look better with some brightness/contrast type filters. I have done this up to now with my edit program, Magix movie Edit Pro 2004. It seems to work Ok, but I am by no means an expert on this. I just play with the filters until the sample looks good.

What I'm wondering is should I also try virtualDub for this? It is more convenient of course to just do it in Magix as i put the project together, but I also like high quality. Is it possible to have "smart" filtering that would make corrections without having to adjust each section? For example, lighhten the dark areas, filter out some shaking in other areas, etc.

What else to folks do to Dv footage to improve the look?

(I know, take better footage in the first place! Try THAT as your kids are trying to get you to fall overboard as you camcorder the vacation boat trip!)

VirtualDub is a very good editor/filter for DV. Take a look at this thread:

There is a 'Conditional Execution filter' available through http://wwwtcs.inf.tu-dresden.de/~dc1/conditional/ that may be able to apply different filters on different parts of a video without cutting up the video. Worth a try.

Problem is that using filters means converting to RGB24.
