  1. Right now I am desperately searching around the net for a CD Burner and DVD Player/Burner Software that will fit my media usage needs.

    Here are my needs.

    1)
    A) A CD Burner Software Program that burns CD's up to 48x and is reliable

    B) I would also like for it to have an option that converts wavs into mp3s and makes an mp3 disc onto the CD.

Is their a free or extremely cheap program that offers option A? Is their a Program to pay for that offers both?

    2)

    A) A DVD Burner Program/Software that allows me to simply drag and drop data for purposes of backup storage of my WAV/Mp3 Music files. Convenience and ease of use are critical here.

    B) Is their a DVD program that also plays DVD's and allows me to put bookmarks on sections of DVD's (time frames, lets say 1:10 to 1:17 of a DVD and easily select it? Does PowerDVD for example, have this option?

    C) The program has capability to make a backup copy of a movie DVD of mine with relative ease?

Are there two relatively cheap programs that offer these options? Perhaps one that does both?

Any help on finding software that helps me with my media usage/cd burning needs would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    1. a) is mostly dependent on your hardware, not the software. If the hardware cannot burn reliably at 48x, or the media is rubbish, then it doesn't matter how good the software is.
    1. b) putting aside my well known antagonism towards mp3 as a format, there are few all-in-one programs that do any particular task very well. The best results will always be achieved by using the best tools for each stage, not second rate tools all the way through.

    2. a) I use Prassi ONES for burning. It is easy to use, reliable, and gives me no trouble. It will, hardware limitations aside, suit 1. a) as well.

    2. b) PowerDVD allows you to bookmark a point, but not a section. I haven't seen a software player that does, but I haven't used that many as PowerDVD does all I need, and does it very well.

    2. c) If the disc is a single layer (or dual layer) that isn't copy protected, imgburn is the best program for duplicating DVDs. If they have copy protection or require size reduction then their is no single program that can do what you ask.

  3. What about a simple program that allows me to transfer my music and computer DATA to the DVD?

    Thanks!

Prassi ONES will do all that.

If you want a freebie you could also look at DeepBurner and CDBurnerXP Pro

  5. Buy a DVD burner in a retail box that comes with Nero software to start. Nero will do most of the operations you are looking for.

DVDshrink v3.2 is the most popular freeware for backuping DVD.
