In the past, I usaually re-encode the AVI to add Chinese subtitle because my DVD player Philips DVP642 does not support Chinese. It took looooong time in my old PC. Now I found a good tool call AVISub, it creates an .Divx file after processing. It takes only a few minutes to add max. 3 subtitles in to AVI movie. This .divx file can be played in DVP642 and I can switch over between different subtitles. Anyway, the subtitle is not very clear. Anyone use a better tool? VirtualDub do not have such function.

From the screenshot it appears to let you pick the font used to create the xsubs. So try picking a more clear font.
