the tv i have currently got lets me watch tv aswell as use it as my monitor, so i dont need it to watch tv.I need it to record the tv, would this beable to do it?

Apart from image quality, less effort may be required to capture if you can grab the transport streams from the broadcast, instead of having to encode them yourself on the fly. If you can afford a high def card, the image quality will be much better than you can get from an analogue card.

yes that will record TV but isn't very reliable(audio sync problems).And at 70 quid or $140 is way overpriced for an old card like the 150.(at lest a5 yr old card?)

If you are tuning to an analog broadcast, I recommend a tuner card with hardware encoding like the Hauppauge PVR series. These will encode the analog broadcast to MPeg2 in hardware and won't load the computer.
If you are tuning a digital TV broadcast, it is best to capture the digital stream directly with a DTV/HDTV capture card for best quality.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.
