Everyone collects stuff even if you don't think about it. What do you collect?

I collect a bit of everything but only in small periods of time. This month may be old video games, next month action figure, but then I might be back to old videogames in 6 months. Because of this I have no serious collections but do have a bunch of crap.

  2. I collect Vintage and new British television drama and comedy, for which this site has been invaluable in helping to teach me in converting my many VHS tapes/off air captures to DVD. My loft also contains a large collection of US (as oppossed to UK re-prints) Spiderman comics from the 60s to early 90s, but I have made a concious decision to stop collecting anything other than my DVDs/VHS tapes as I simply don't have the room.

My house on the other hand collects dust.

    I collect dust

I don't really 'collect' anything apart from junk but it's mostly stuff I couldn't afford from yesteryear

    various animated shows on DVD
various iterations of Transformers action figures
    Superman and Green Lantern comics
old video games (though emulation is seeming more and more the way to go on this one)
various odds and ends/pieces parts for my Volkswagen (only 1500 were made that year -- it's a bitch to find parts for and when I can find 'em, they're pricey!)

I have only one "collectable" item that I'm holding onto. I used to be a theater manager. And years ago, 20th Century Fox sent me a movie poster to put up on a certain date. However, before that date came up, they sent me a new poster ... asking for the old one back. Well (grin), the old one never made it back. It looks like this but not as faded:

when i was between the ages of 4 and 8 i saved every penny i had.. i would save birthday money, christmas money, money i got from doing odd jobs, my weekly allowance, everything.. i would give it to my grandfather to save for me, the last total i had was just above $750.. when he passed away (when i was eight) as my relatives were cleaning out his room they stole the money.. i remember my parents trying to tell me that i purchased a bunch of fried chicken with it for everyone.. my response was "I DID NOT PURCHASE $750 WORTH OF FRIED CHICKEN!".. i never got the money and have never been able to save money well since then

after that period up until i was about 14 years old i started collecting coins.. wheatback pennies, bicentenial quarters, 2 dollar bills, kenny half dollars, susan b. anthony dollars, a silver dollar, buffalo nickels, etc, etc.. at face value i had probably about $500 worth of currency... i had it hidden away in a very safe location, or so i thought.. one day when i went to go check on it i saw that all i was left with was about $30 worth of bicentential quarters and some wheatback pennies.. apparently my older sister used it as her private bank for the 2 or 3 months prior to that and purchased stuff at face value with them.. that got me out of coin collecting..

after that i started collecting sports cards, but that became too much of an addiction and money drain, so i had to stop that.. i've got them all put away in the attic.. maybe in 30 years they'll be worth a small fourtune.

    now i collect nothing.

becuase someone will either steal it or i'll become too addicted.

well atleast you got to spend it on something you liked instead of someone attempting to make you believe you spent it all at once on FRIED CHICKEN!

I have this as a cover to my ROTJ DVD that is the widescreen unremastered original theater release.

I collect rare & hard to find movies, and put them on DVD for myself. There is not a single DVDr (that I know of well maybe a few I'm not willing to discuss or divulge) that I do not have a physical "legal" copy of. I also collect the players these rare movies can play on, mostly because I need the player to convert the friggin movie.

I also collect HO scale trains, and my wife thinks I spend way too much money on them. Finally, I collect US currency (coin & paper). I do have a lucky Penny which is an 1887 indian head.

I'd collect more, but when you're married you kind of have to stop. So I took out my excess desire to collect on my son. We also are huge collectors of the RC2 style "Thomas the Tank Engine" trains & accessories (not the wooden ones). As far as I have found, we have every item they've ever had available. Some of which I had to purchase from people in the UK. As new ones come out we get them almost instantly. I call it a child investment, though my wife will often say it's a childish obsession.

I've recently started collecting grey hair. Don't know how I like this collection so I've only got a few for now - ask again in a few years and I'm sure the collection will be flourishing.
