    okay someone told me "make sure you convert to NTSC or PAL depending on your current place of residence." i live in a suburb of california. what in the world does this mean?

    It's very simple actually.

    It's the different kinds of television signal standards. I don't know why exactly, for instance Europe and USA/Canada does not have the same standards, like you have 110V and we in Europe have 230 V in our power outlets.

    Anyway, Europe has PAL and America has NTSC - including you ofcourse

    It's good to know also, NTSC has a standard of 29,97 frames / second and a maximum capture resolution at 720x480. The standard VCD resolution for NTSC is 352x240, while PAL uses 25 fps and has a max capture resolution at 720x576.

    So that's the way it is. Capture 29.97 fps and so on..

  3. Correct me if I wrong, but

    If your source vid is PAL, it would be best not to convert to NTSC because u are adding frames in the convertion and may cause the final vid to be jerky when played. I have this problem converting some divx-PAL to mpg-NTSC.

    I believe most dvd players will auto-play either, u just need to setup/choose what TV type u are outputing to.
