Apparently Apple made this quasi-official recently and put up a beta of the software required to install XP on Intel-based Mac hardware. I wish I had an Apple product to try this out on.

I figured this would belong here as opposed to the Mac forum as it is cross-platform related.

FB-DIMM are the real cause of global warming

Yeah, the big boss at work is installing it at the moment on his Mac. I think he's expecting some kind of blazing performance.
Reminds me of "Roger Rabbit", where you'd have Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse in the same frame. Some things just shouldn't be seen together.
Update - Oh $*@* it works, and it's pretty peppy. Installed 3DsMax and it even renders frames. Pretty close in performance to an Opteron 242 - the Opteron beat it by around 30 seconds in a render test. No idea about video playback performance or gaming.

Well I would assume its performance is close to that of a similar PC board since most of the components are the same. Intel dual-core CPU, memory is all the same, can't recall which chipset the Intel Macs use but it has to share a lot of the same architecture.
I'm kinda pissed though. I totally would have picked up the best new MacBook instead of my Vaio had I known there was going to be such a thing in the works. The Apple laptops are one of the most stylish yet functional designs on the market, if not the best. But then I'd expect nothing less for their price tag.FB-DIMM are the real cause of global warming

A number of benchmarks to date have shown OS X is slower on intel than XP on equivelent HW. So much for setting that poor little intel chip free. If they have, they broke it's leg on the way through.

I'm still wishing for the day when they become standardized modular set-tops. Using Flash drives as the main drive. A removable video card. universal, swappable LCD monitors. Carbon core processor than can be removed for upgrading and requires no heatsink or fan for cooling.
I also wish to be debt free and have $4k in free spending cash every week, but my idea of a laptop has more potential of happening soon.
