  1. MSU Screen Capture Lossless Codec 1.1 released!

This codec is intended for lossless compression of video taken from computer screen. It may be used for making software presentations, video lessons and tutorials, recording video from games etc.

    Main features:
    * Now many times better than Huffyuv on such files!
    * We clame best compression rates (please check us!)

We've compared results of proposed algorithm with other available codecs results.
Comparison was made on several sequencies captured in DOSBox emulator from several games (UFO, Jazz Jackrabbit, Test Drive 3, Ultima 6 and Lemmings). All these games except Lemmings ran in 256 colors mode, Lemmings ran in 16 colors mode.

  2. So...this is just a codec...what software is required to actually capture off the computer screen? Does it work w/ DirectX and/or OpenGL?

It will not show up else in the codec list in Camstudio, so I can't test it as a screen capture codec.

    Anybody else?

This is codec, installed into the system. So if your program can use external codec - you can use it.
Also it's possible to recompress AVI video from other codecs like HuffYUV using VirtualDub for example.

Thanks for report! Strange, it works on our comp and we have confirmations.

What screen mode do you use (TrueColor, HiColor, 256 colors)? Can you test in TrueColor?

Aha! Thanks Dmitriy that was the problem. My screen was set to 16bit, when I changed it to 32bit the codec shows in the list. Sorry, I hadn't realized that this would affect the codec. Thanks again.
