  1. I recently loaded Windows Movie maker v2.1 on my son's Xp (SP1) pc. WMM v1.2 worked perfectly, but V2.1 will not play the timeline and will not save the movie. Did I stuff up by loading WMM v2.1 on XP (SP1) or should it work fine on SP1? Can I get V1.2 back again from anywhere or do I have to upgrade XP to SP2?

How to annoy your 11 year old!!

WMM v2.1 comes as part of SP2. I didn't know it was available as a separate download. v2.0 used to be available as a separate download before SP2.

What kind of file are you trying to load and play?

  3. My son was dumping in off the mini dv and making a simple timeline and then trying to save as a low res wmv file to play in windows media player for his mates. This all worked really well in the early version and then when his dad stepped in it all went pear shaped. The whole program works fine. It even plays the audio on the timeline, but displays black in the pvw window and when he goes to save it cannot save.

Works to spec here. Maybe it only works with SP2. If you can find v2.0 it worked with SP1.

v2.0 added full DV format support. You can edit DV to DV, not just DV to WMV as in v1.x.

I don't know why I didn't think of it before..... a system restore got me out of trouble. All good.
