This software is apparently available in Japan only:
http://clonedvd.livedoor.com/mac/
At first I thought it was vapourware, but apparently it really exists.
Since our very own qshartle is the only person I know living out in Japan, I asked him about it. The software really does exist and costs $90 and rips, compresses and burns.
Now the questions
Has anyone tried it? Any thoughts?
GeezerButtz - Elby appears to be a Swiss company: http://www.elby.ch/products/clone_dvd/index.html - have you heard anything about them? Any ideas why they sell the PC version in Europe but not the Mac version? Any chance of phoning them and asking?
Looking forward to input from anyone![]()

It also fails with ARccOS content so the newer disc will not work.
The cost is only 90 if you update from DVD2One or one of Holonsofts other programs. Otherwise it's almost $150.
It has some nice features, but it's also a pain to use. The quality isn't any better then DVD2One or Popcorn, so if you use DVD2One and Toast or Popcorn, CloneDVD will not give you anything else.
In the most recent copy of Mac Fan, they say DVD2One is better if you want more control. They say CloneDVD is better for beginners and people that don't have Toast since it can burn.
Of course, they haven't seen Popcorn yet which is half the price, burns and is still easier to use than CloneDVD.
CloneDVD is not any faster either.
The UI is also confusing, and it definently isn't very Mac like in the way it works. If you have DVD2One and Toast or any other of the compressors already, you will not gain anything from CloneDVD. -
Thanks for the info chikanakan

I just picked up my copy at BicCamera, and it rips, and does arc.

Tried Vers 2.
It does not rip CSS DVDs BUT it's the best tool I've ever used.
Because you can control every single content on a dvd and if you leave for example a trailer that starts before the main movie the disc does not hang up the dvd player (like Fast DVD Copy for example which inserts blank pictures instead of the movie) but does right go on to the main menu.
Best Programm to backup Dvd's in connection with MTR. -
but how does it handle Ripguard. which is hosing EVERYTHING but
Toast 7 right now?"Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."

When I'm not here, Where can I be found?
Urban Mac User -
I would be careful with CloneDVD for Mac. They haven't had a single update since it was released that I can find. One and a half years without an update sounds like a dead product to me.
Livedoor is in major trouble too, so you may find yourself with an unsupported product. At $150, that's a big gamble.
