Currently I'm having a problem playing back video in Media Player Classic. All video formats playback except for M2V. Its M2V video that I've convert so that I can author DVDs. M2V used to playback perfectly. Below are images of the settings that I think would effect playback, maybe I can get some feedback to get my playback to work again.
As you can see the file is playing but there is no video.

have you installed any codecs lately? or any video software? If so, that may be part of the problem.......
-
I installed Mainconcept H.264 Encoder, but I uninstalled that figuring that that may be the problem, but I guess it wasnt...

I had this last year , I seem to recall it being my soundcard drivers , can`t remember how I worked that out , other than rationalising that sound and video were playing at the same time , the sound was playing ok though - the same as yours . Reinstalling and swearing were the order of the day . Not before I reinstalled a load of other things first though , none of which worked . (to list them as far as I remember , ATi drivers , Direct X , MPC , MPG2 codec , Windows Media codecs , MP3 codec , AC3 codec , Im sure there were more ) .
Addendum : just checked your spec , you have an Audigy the same as me . -
I won't rule out that it may be the soundcard, but I don't think it would be that because m2V files used to player with a video out put before and with that same same soundcard I have now, the Audigy.

I presume that Windows or some program went pear shaped and damaged my drivers . My files used to play OK before as well , which is the point , after re-installation of the drivers my videos worked ok .
As I have a dual-boot system I was able to check straight away that my hardware was fine and it was deffo a software issue . You havent mentioned if other formats of video will play correctly or not , it was only MPG2 files that wouldnt play correctly on mine .
With ATi`s rabbit warren of files that it installs and Creatives , it is not without reason that I suggest the soundcard drivers . I also presume that you have deleted and reinstalled the ATi drivers firstly ?
Im not saying it definitely is the soundcard drivers but if youre scratching your head for the answer , and with minimal work required to do it , why not try reinstalling the drivers ? if only to tick them off the list , doing nothing won`t fix it .
Have you reinstalled Media Player Classic ? have u checked the Filters page in the options of it ? have u reinstalled DirectX along with DirectSound ? all of these can trip up stuff and are the bread and butter of fault finding . Something has definitely changed , if you havent added software or options/configs , then either your software has been damaged or..... your hardware isn`t working properly . It has to be one of those , no other explanations will work .
As part of my job I do a lot of fault finding , there I check the most probable cause even if its expensive to change , at home though with things costing me money and of course my time , I check the easiest and cheapest things first . -
I haven't yet. I'll try and uninstall the ATI and Creative drivers and reinstall them and see if that fixes the problem.
-
The latest ATi drivers did the deleting for me and reinstalling all by themselves , didnt need to mess about at all , as an obviousism - do one at a time .

I missed one of the suggestion about reinstalling DX9. Does the installer for DX9 offer an uninstall option?
Edit: Well I tried and uninstalled the ATI and Creative drivers and reintalled them. I reinstalled the ATI twice, once via the CD that came with the card and the second time via the ATI drivers from their web site. There is still no video output. I even tried a system restore from a System Checkpoint...that had no success. I also uninstalled Cole2k Media - Codec Pack V6.0.4 Advanced figuring that may by slight chance fix it, still no video output. I'm totally stumped as to what is causing this problem. I installed the latest DX9 and still no video. Video plays back perfectly in PowerDVD. I just like Media Player Classic because it'll load the audio file with the video that way I can see if the audio is in/out of sync with the video. -
What you have , is exactly what I had - plays in PowerDVD , but not in MP classic . Running out of ideas a bit now -
What codec do you use to play MPG2`s ? your pc might have got a bit shaken up with the Mainconcept Encoder being installed , try Codec Sniper to see what MPG codecs are installed on your machine , the priorities might have been disrupted or a codec damaged or left pointing to something not there . https://www.videohelp.com/tools?toolsearch=codec+sniper I have no MPG2 codec installed in my new machine , MPClassic has one built in , so I let it do it all . But if youre using Codec Sniper , read up about it first , so that you understand it , Nero messed up a few things for me a while ago and this wonderful tool helped me regain my sanity . -
Thanx but when I run Codec Sniper I get an error message as follows: Zuggriffsverletzung bei Adresse 004047DE in Modul 'codec_sniper.exe'. Lesen von Adresse FFFFFFF7.
Edit:
In the image above there is the MainConcept MPEG Splitter, I don't recall that ever being there when Media Player Classic was able to play M2V files in the past. I uninstalled all MainConcept programs on my computer. The MainConcept MPEG Splitter is not in the Add/Remove Programs list. How do I remove it from my system because I kinda have a feeling that that's what's keeping video output from showing.
Edit: Thanx for your help, Sartori. I finally got it to work I used DirectShow Filter Manager and removed the problematic filter, it was the MainConcept MPEG Splitter filter. -
I have the same problem with Media Player Classic playing M2V files. I installed the Directshow Video Manager but I do not see anything about Mainconcept. Not sure what I should try next to solve my M2V woesssss.
Also, side note is that Yahoo Lauchcast Radio will not work unless I continue to reinstall Windows Media Player 10/9 every time I restart my PC. This has bewildered me for months. I have installed way too many codecs/programs to know where to turn, ACE Kazaa and others.
Any suggestions? Not really sure what I am supposed to do with Directshow Manager.Jonathan P Esker -
Ahhh nevermind, I found the trouble. I finally remembered I had selected Filters, and selected MPEG-2 Video Decoder, and now that I unchecked it, M2V files play fine now.
Hope this helps anyone else who might have checked these filters by mistake, not sure why MPC wasnt working but its a fix for the Codec-Newbie like me.
