  1. CDR was more colorful than DVDR, because the manufacters were trying all type of material. Gold, silver, iron, synth polymer...

    DVDR media by far has very little choice. Gold subtrate and high stability dye makes CD/DVD media last much longer, due to its inherence stability. But other than those $32.00 per disc archive DVDR, I did not see any other make.

    Is there a make with gold subtrate that is affordable ?

    mostly all purple or crappy greeny colored for the cheap crap dye.

    CDRs have the colour because that is the colur of the dye, not because it was made to be that colour.

    Same with DVDRs, its just that the colour of the dye happens to be purple.

    There are no gold coloured DVDRs. You're looking at pressed DVDs for gold/silver.

    MAM-A (Mitsui) has gold DVD-R for about $2 each (no +R however):

    While these discs use a gold reflective layer, they do not look gold because the dye is dark purple.
